"Thus far and no further"

Subject

USSR and US relations over Berlin

Description

In this cartoon, Lang represents the Soviet Union as an ogre-representing communism. Capitalism is represented through a caricature of President Kennedy who is waving a warning and cautionary finger at the ogre who is biting his lower leg labeled “Berlin”. In this cartoon, Lang was trying to explain that the occupation of Eastern Germany by the Soviet Union was all that the capitalist nations like the U.S. would tolerate stating “Thus far and no further…” drawing the line at Berlin representing the Berlin Wall.
