Description

This source is an address to the people of Berlin made by Willy Brandt on August 18th, 1961 and his opinion of the creation of the Berlin Wall. In his address, he clearly states that this wall was a “violation of human rights” and that now more than ever, Berlin needed the aid of its allies in order to help Berlin from being “brutally destroyed” and divided even more. He explains in this source that the “illegal” occupation of East Germany by the Soviet Union was an action against the liberal Western sphere that greatly affected everyone and not just the USSR’s sphere.
