Subject

Women's Suffragism

Description

This picture shows one of the covers from an early 1900's newspaper, based in the United Kingdom, called The Suffragette. The picture shows three angels, one of which happens to be holding a key, with the phrase "Votes for Women" circling around it. Right underneath the picture, there is a caption that says "Suffragette Week - March On! March On !", which could be seen as the paper requesting for all people behind the suffragist movement to continue marching forward until women gained the right to vote. Now, the group who formed this newspaper was a group called Women's Social & Political Union (WSPU), and the goal of said group was to grant women the same voting rights that men were already allowed, meaning that women would gain the right to vote, but, for example, there would be the same age restrictions that men had. Women eventually gained the right to vote in the United Kingdom during the year of 1928.
