Title
Petition for Suffrage in the United Kingdom
Subject
Women's Suffrage
Description
A petition from Sarah Avery, among other women, to grant women the right to vote in the United Kingdom. The petition was made in the year 1866, which was far ahead of most suffragist movements, which really made waves in the early 1900's. In the petition, Avery states that only householders of one sex are allowed to vote, while she believes that all householders should be allowed to vote, regardless of sex. She also states that women have always been capable of sovereignty. The petition was sent out to Parliament, and was just one of many attempts over the better part of the next century to give the right to vote to women in the UK.
