Schene’s Trophy II

Subject

Germans Living in Berlin in the 1960s

Description

a sculpture produced by the Berlin artist in 1969. The sculpture depicts a series of black cubes forming a triangle in the Minimal Art style (Schene). The sculpture was created in three separate parts, which come together to form sharp angles, which appear to be pointing at the audience. The hardedge design of the sculpture points to the political and social realities of the time. During 1960’s Berlin, Germany was in turmoil. In 1945 Russia took over the Eastern half of Europe erecting the Berlin wall. Artists living in East Berlin were not given the freedom to produce works of art.
